Flower Orthopedics, a leader in foot and ankle bone fixation solutions headquartered in Horsham, Pennsylvania, recently introduced a new low-profile syndesmotic fixation device, the FlowerRope.
This knotless syndesmotic fixation device was designed to stabilize the tissue and bone segments in the foot or ankle while they heal. The FlowerRope, which comes in one-size-fits-all, can be used for both bone to bone fixation and soft tissue to bone fixation. Another benefit of this device is that it comes ready to use, no assembly required.
The FlowerRope is the newest member of Flower Orthopedic’s Ready-For-Surgery portfolio aimed at reducing surgical steps while still maintaining the highest quality of care. Flower Orthopedics also offers the FlowerCube, a customized package of all the instruments and implants you need for one specific surgical case.
Justin Creel, Ph.D., company vice president of product development and marketing, told OTW that the FlowerRope utilizes a flat fixation band.
He said, “The geometry of this band avoids the ‘sawing effect’ and simplifies the intraoperative tensioning process by maintaining tension prior to tightening. The device can be tensioned and tightened by one person.”
He added that one feature of FlowerRope, the Locking Plug, allows the construct to maintain knotless fixation better than the competition.
Nick Cheney, D.O., an orthopedic surgeon in Columbus, Ohio who has used FlowerRope in his surgeries, described his experience with FlowerRope to OTW, “I have confidence in FlowerRope’s excellent mechanical testing results where it outperformed current syndesmotic fixation options. I also appreciate the thickness of the ‘ropes’ as well as the ability to loosen and re-tension them at any point, which is unique to this device.”
